How Long Does House Cleaning Take? Real Hours From Singapore Homes
27 October 20267 min read
Quick answer: In our bookings, the most common house cleaning session in Singapore is 3 hours, and a regular clean of a 4-room HDB flat typically takes about 3 hours. Smaller flats usually need a little less and larger homes more, while a first clean or a home that has gone weeks without attention can take an hour or more longer.
This article is based on what we see across our own bookings, not on a survey. Where we give hours for other home types, they are clearly labelled estimates built around that 3-hour, 4-room anchor. For the wider picture of how Singapore homes are cleaned, see our Singapore home cleaning report for 2027.
What do our bookings actually show?
Two patterns stand out clearly in our bookings:
- The 3-hour session is the most common booking. It is long enough to cover the living areas, bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen of a typical flat at a steady pace, without rushing the bathrooms.
- A regular clean of a 4-room HDB flat typically takes about 3 hours. "Regular" is the important word. That figure applies to homes cleaned on a routine, where dust and grease never get the chance to build up.
That second point is the one most people underestimate. The hours a home needs depend less on its size than on how long it has been since the last proper clean.
How long does cleaning take for each type of home?
The table below starts from what we observe for 4-room flats and scales up or down for other home types. Everything except the 4-room regular figure is an estimate, and it lines up with the fuller ranges in our guide on how many hours of cleaning your home needs.
| Home type | Regular clean (estimate) | First clean or overdue (estimate) |
|---|---|---|
| Studio or 2-room flexi | About 2 hours | 2.5 to 3.5 hours |
| 3-room HDB | 2.5 to 3 hours | 3.5 to 4.5 hours |
| 4-room HDB | About 3 hours (from our bookings) | 4.5 hours or more |
| 5-room or executive HDB | 4 to 5 hours | 5.5 hours or more |
| 2- to 3-bedroom condo | 3 to 4 hours | 4.5 hours or more |
| Landed home | 5 hours or more | Often two cleaners or two sessions |
For deep cleans of large homes or post-renovation work, we can send two cleaners so the job finishes in a sensible time rather than stretching across a whole day.
Why does a first clean take so much longer?
A first session is a reset rather than upkeep. The cleaner is clearing weeks or months of build-up: dust on top of wardrobes, grease on the kitchen splashback, soap scum on shower glass and grime around the toilet base. Once that layer is gone, the next visit is maintenance, and maintenance is quick.
There is also a learning curve. On the first visit the cleaner is finding where your supplies live, which floor needs which product and which rooms matter most to you. By the third or fourth visit on a recurring plan, the session tends to settle into a steady length.
What makes a cleaning session run longer?
Bathrooms that are overdue
Bathrooms are the slowest rooms per square metre. Limescale on taps, mould in grout and a stained toilet base all need time to soak and scrub. The spots our cleaners find most often missed include behind the toilet bowl and the sink, and when those have been skipped for weeks they take real effort to bring back. Our guide to toilet cleaning spots people miss covers the details.
What sits under and around appliances
Under appliances is another of the spots our cleaners most often find missed. Dust and crumbs under the fridge, washing machine and sofa build up quietly, and pulling them out properly adds minutes to every room.
Clutter on surfaces
A cleaner can't wipe a counter covered in mail and toys. Time spent moving items is time not spent cleaning. Our cleaners also take care to put items back where they were afterwards, which is something customers notice and appreciate, but it means a cluttered home simply takes longer. Ten minutes of tidying before the visit helps, and our guide to preparing your home before the cleaner arrives shows what to clear.
Add-ons inside the same booking
The most-requested add-ons in our bookings are toilet cleaning and ironing. Both come out of the booked hours. If you want a basket of shirts ironed every visit, add that time when you book so the standard rooms aren't squeezed.
Wok cooking and humidity
Daily wok cooking leaves a sticky film on the hob, hood and nearby cabinets, and Singapore's humidity means damp corners and bathroom grout need regular attention. Kitchens used mainly for reheating are noticeably quicker.
How do you keep cleaning within 3 hours?
The simplest answer is frequency. A home cleaned every week or fortnight rarely gets the build-up that turns a 3-hour job into a 5-hour one. That is the main reason we encourage customers onto recurring plans: regularly cleaned homes tend to stay within a typical 3-hour session.
A few other habits help:
- Tell the cleaner your priorities at the start, so the rooms you care about most are done first.
- Have supplies ready. Customers provide the cleaning products and equipment, which means no mark-ups and full control over what's used around children and pets. Our list of cleaning supplies to prepare for your cleaner covers the basics.
- Keep surfaces clear on cleaning day.
- Book the same day and time each week or fortnight so the routine sticks.
What does that mean for cost?
Hours turn directly into cost. On a weekly or fortnightly plan at $23/hr, a 3-hour clean of a 4-room flat comes to $69. The same 3 hours booked on demand at $26/hr is $78. Your first ad-hoc trial is $20/hr. There are no agency fees, contracts or hidden charges. For more worked examples, see part-time cleaning cost in Singapore.
Recurring customers also get priority scheduling, which matters most in the run-up to Chinese New Year, by far our busiest period. And on recurring plans we do our best to send the same cleaner, who learns your home and works faster because of it.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to clean a 4-room HDB flat?
In our bookings, a regular clean of a 4-room HDB flat typically takes about 3 hours. A first clean, or a flat that has gone several weeks without cleaning, usually needs longer, often 4.5 hours or more.
Why is a 3-hour session the most common booking?
Three hours is enough for a cleaner to cover the living areas, bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen of a typical regularly cleaned flat without rushing. It is the length most of our customers settle on once their home is on a routine.
Can two cleaners make the job faster?
Yes. For big jobs, such as deep cleans of large homes or post-renovation cleaning, we can send two cleaners so the work is finished in less elapsed time. For regular upkeep of a flat, one cleaner is usually enough.
Does ironing count towards my cleaning hours?
Yes. Ironing and toilet cleaning, our two most-requested add-ons, come out of the booked time. Add an extra half hour or so if you want them every visit, so the main rooms still get done.
Want your cleans to stay short and predictable? A weekly or fortnightly plan at $23/hr keeps most homes within a typical 3-hour session, with priority scheduling and, where we can, the same cleaner each time. Set up your recurring clean or WhatsApp us at +65 8166 0891.
