One-Off Cleaning in Singapore: When an Ad-Hoc Clean Makes Sense

Looking for flexible home help? See our complete guide to Part Time Cleaning in Singapore.

One-off cleaning in Singapore makes sense when you need a clean home for a specific reason, not a standing weekly arrangement. Think guests arriving on Saturday, a flat you've let slide during a busy month, a festive reset, or simply wanting to try a cleaner before committing. You book a single session, pay by the hour, and there's no contract to cancel afterwards.

Here's how to decide whether an ad-hoc clean fits, what it can realistically cover, and how to make every hour count.

Situations where an ad-hoc clean is the right tool

Not every home needs a recurring cleaner. Ad-hoc sessions work best when there's a clear trigger:

  • Hosting. A dinner, a birthday, in-laws staying over, or an open house during the festive season.
  • Catching up. Exams, a product launch at work or a new baby can push housework back for weeks.
  • Before or after travel. Coming home to a fresh flat, or leaving it clean so it doesn't turn musty while you're away.
  • Seasonal resets. Before Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Deepavali or the year-end holidays.
  • Trying out a service. A trial session tells you whether a cleaner's standard and style suit you before you sign up for anything regular.
  • One room or one job. A kitchen after a cooking weekend, a bathroom that's gone mouldy, or windows and grilles that need attention.

If you find yourself booking ad-hoc cleans every couple of weeks, a recurring plan is usually cheaper and more consistent. Our comparison of weekly vs fortnightly cleaning can help you decide.

What a one-off clean usually covers

An ad-hoc session follows the same standard scope as a regular clean, adjusted to your priorities:

  • Living areas: vacuuming, mopping, dusting, wiping surfaces, the aircon unit exterior and clearing rubbish.
  • Bedrooms: surfaces, floors, tidying, bed-making, and window interiors, frames and sills.
  • Bathrooms: toilet, sink, tub, shower glass, floor stains and bin liners.
  • Kitchen: counters, splashback, floors and the exteriors of the oven, stove and fridge.

Extras such as ironing, balcony cleaning, the main door and gate, decluttering or furniture exteriors can be added on request. If your home needs much more than a standard clean, for instance heavy grease, mould on ceilings or a full move-out, look at a deep cleaning service instead. It's planned differently and usually needs more hours.

Trial rate vs on-demand rate

Cleaning Assistant has two ad-hoc price points, and it's worth knowing which applies:

OptionRateBest for
First trial session$20/hrTrying the service for the first time
On-demand ad-hoc$26/hrOccasional cleans when you need them, including same-day requests
Weekly or fortnightly plan$23/hrOngoing upkeep at a lower hourly rate

There are no agency fees, levies, contracts or hidden charges, and a minimum session length applies. Same-day service is available, subject to cleaner availability, so it's always better to book as early as you can, especially in the weeks before major festivals. How many hours to book

The most common mistake with one-off cleans is booking too few hours and expecting a deep clean. Rough guide for a standard clean of a reasonably maintained home:

  • Studio or 2-room flat: a shorter session is usually enough.
  • 3-room or 4-room HDB: plan for a half-day-style session.
  • 5-room, executive or larger condo: budget more time, or prioritise rooms.
  • Home that hasn't been cleaned in a month or more: add extra time on top.

These are estimates, not promises. Clutter, pets, the state of the kitchen and how many bathrooms you have all shift the numbers. Our guide to how many hours of cleaning you need goes into more detail by flat type.

Planning the session so nothing is wasted

Before the cleaner arrives

  1. List your top three priorities. If time runs short, the cleaner knows what matters most.
  2. Lay out supplies and equipment. Customers provide these, which means no mark-ups and full control over what's used around children and pets. Have a vacuum, mop and bucket, microfibre cloths, a multi-surface cleaner, a bathroom cleaner, glass cleaner and bin bags ready.
  3. Clear surfaces. Put away papers, toys and laundry so time goes on cleaning, not tidying.
  4. Mention delicate materials. Marble, timber and natural stone need the right products.

During and after

Stay reachable by phone or WhatsApp in case a question comes up. At the end, walk through the home together if you're around. If you liked the result, note what went well; it's useful if you book again or move to a regular plan.

When ad-hoc isn't the best fit

A one-off clean won't fix everything. It isn't designed for post-renovation dust, which needs a specialised approach, or for internal aircon servicing and pest control, which we don't offer. It's also not the most economical choice if your home needs weekly attention, since recurring plans come in at a lower hourly rate and we do our best to send the same cleaner each time. Frequently asked questions

Can I book a one-off clean for today?

Same-day on-demand cleaning is available at $26/hr, subject to cleaner availability. Booking earlier in the day, or a day ahead, gives you the best chance of getting your preferred time.

Is the $20/hr rate only for the first session?

Yes. The $20/hr rate is for your first ad-hoc trial. After that, occasional bookings are $26/hr on-demand, while weekly or fortnightly plans are $23/hr.

Do I need to buy special products for an ad-hoc clean?

No special products are needed, just the basics: a vacuum, mop, cloths, a general cleaner, a bathroom cleaner and glass cleaner. Customers provide supplies, so you choose exactly what's used in your home.

Can a one-off clean focus on just the kitchen or bathroom?

Yes. You can ask the cleaner to spend the session on one or two areas. Let us know when booking so we can suggest a sensible number of hours.
