Novena Home Cleaning Guide: Hiring a Part-Time Cleaner for Your Condo
2 October 20266 min read
Most homes in Novena are condos and private apartments, so a part-time cleaner here spends less time on big floor areas and more on glass, stone, stainless steel and the bathrooms that come with each bedroom. A fortnightly or weekly clean of two to four hours suits most units. Cleaning Assistant serves homes in Novena and across Singapore, with first trial cleans at $20 an hour and no contracts.
Who lives in Novena, and why it matters for cleaning
Novena is best known as Singapore's medical hub. Tan Tock Seng Hospital and Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital sit near Novena MRT on the North-South Line, surrounded by medical suites, Novena Square, Velocity and United Square. Newton is one stop south, and Stevens, an interchange for the Downtown and Thomson-East Coast lines, is a short ride away.
That shapes who lives here. Residents include doctors, nurses and healthcare staff on shifts, professionals who want to be near the city, and families who chose the area for its schools and quiet streets off Thomson Road, Moulmein Road and Balestier Road. Older walk-up apartments and Balestier shophouses mix with newer high-rise condos.
In practice, this means:
- Irregular schedules. Shift workers often need a clean on a weekday morning or while they sleep off a night shift. Flexible booking matters more than a fixed Saturday slot.
- High standards for hygiene. Many residents work in clinical settings and notice when a bathroom is only surface-clean.
- Compact, finish-heavy units. Marble, quartz counters, glass shower screens and timber flooring all need the right products.
The Novena condo cleaning checklist
Bathrooms come first
Many Novena condos have two or three bathrooms in a mid-sized unit. Each one gathers limescale on taps and shower glass, damp grout and hair in the drain. A good regular clean covers the toilet inside and out, sink, vanity, shower screen, floor and bin. For the spots that get skipped, read our guide to toilet cleaning spots people miss.
Stone and timber floors need care
Marble lobbies and living rooms look great until someone mops them with vinegar or a harsh bathroom cleaner and etches the surface. Use a pH-neutral cleaner on stone and a barely damp mop on timber. Our marble floor cleaning guide explains the do's and don'ts.
Open kitchens and stainless steel
Open-concept kitchens mean cooking oil travels. The hob, cooker hood exterior, splashback and fridge doors take the brunt, but a fine film also settles on dining tables and nearby shelves. Wipe stainless steel in the direction of the grain with a damp microfibre cloth, then buff dry.
Windows in high-rise units
Interior glass, frames and sills are part of a standard clean, and we can do exterior panes that are safely reachable from inside or from a balcony. We don't do exterior work that would need a cleaner to lean out of a high-floor window. Our window cleaning service explains the scope.
Balconies and planter boxes
Condo balconies collect dust from Thomson Road traffic and leaves from the area's trees. Planter boxes and floor traps can also hold water, which NEA warns can breed mosquitoes. Clearing them is a quick add-on to a regular session.
How long a clean takes for typical Novena homes
Rough estimates for a regular clean, assuming the home is tidied beforehand:
- Studio or 1-bedroom condo: about 2 hours
- 2-bedroom condo with 2 bathrooms: 2.5 to 3 hours
- 3-bedroom condo or apartment: 3 to 4 hours
- Older walk-up apartment or Balestier shophouse unit: 3 to 4.5 hours, depending on stairs and layout
- First visit or end-of-tenancy clean: add 1 to 2 hours, or book a deep clean

Working around shift schedules
If you work nights at the hospital, the simplest approach is a recurring weekday slot, so you're not rebooking every week. Some residents leave access arrangements with their condo management, while others prefer to be home and resting in a closed bedroom while the rest of the unit is cleaned. Either way, tell us what works for you. On recurring plans at $23 an hour, we do our best to send the same cleaner each time, which helps when you're not around to explain things again.
For same-day help after a long shift or before guests arrive, on-demand cleans are $26 an hour.
What to prepare
Our cleaners use the supplies and equipment you provide. For a Novena condo, that usually means:
- A pH-neutral floor cleaner, plus a timber-safe option if you have wooden floors
- A bathroom cleaner and a separate glass cleaner
- A degreaser for the hob and cooker hood exterior
- Microfibre cloths, a soft brush and a flat mop
- A vacuum suited to your flooring
Supplying your own means no mark-ups, and you know exactly what's being used around children, pets or anyone with allergies.

Frequently asked questions
Can I book a cleaner for a weekday morning after a night shift?
Yes. Weekday slots are often easier to arrange than weekends. Let us know you'll be resting so the cleaner can start in the living areas and keep noise down near your bedroom.
Will a cleaner damage the marble floors in my Novena condo?
Not if the right product is used. Provide a pH-neutral stone cleaner and avoid vinegar, lemon or bleach-based products on marble. Our cleaners will follow your instructions on what to use.
Do you clean the condo's common areas or just my unit?
We clean inside your unit, including your balcony if you add it on. Common corridors, lobbies and pools are maintained by your condo's managing agent.
Is fortnightly cleaning enough for a 2-bedroom condo?
For one or two working adults who cook occasionally, fortnightly is usually enough. Families with young children or pets, or anyone who cooks daily, tend to prefer weekly.
