Siglap and East Coast Home Cleaning: Sand, Sea Air and Landed Homes

Not in this area? See every Singapore neighbourhood we cover.

Most homes in Siglap and along the East Coast face the same three problems. Sand comes in from the park, salt and humidity drift up from the sea, and landed homes have a lot of floor area spread across several levels, often with outdoor spaces as well. A part-time cleaner who visits weekly and concentrates on floors, entrances, glass and the outdoor-facing parts of the home will keep things under control. Plan on 5 to 7 hours for a typical landed house and 3 to 4.5 hours for a condo unit.

Siglap and the East Coast: who lives here and in what

Siglap is one of the east's long-established residential areas. Its best-known feature is its landed estates. Opera Estate is known for streets named after operas, and Frankel Estate and the lanes around Siglap Road and Upper East Coast Road are full of terraces, semi-detached houses and bungalows. Many have gardens, car porches, roof terraces or outdoor dining areas.

Closer to the sea, along Marine Parade Road, Bayshore and the East Coast Park edge, the housing shifts to condominiums, from older low-rise developments with big balconies to newer towers. Families, retirees who've lived in the area for decades and expat households all mix here.

East Coast Park is the area's backyard. Residents cycle, skate, barbecue and walk along the beach, and Bedok Jetty sits at the eastern end. Siglap Centre and the cafes on Upper East Coast Road serve daily needs. The Thomson-East Coast Line now runs along the coast, with Siglap, Marine Terrace and Bayshore among the stations closest to these homes.

The East Coast cleaning challenges

Sand: the uninvited guest

Sand travels home on shoes, bikes, prams, beach bags, dog paws and children's feet. It ends up in entrance areas, under rugs, in sliding-door tracks and on staircases. Sand is abrasive, so on timber, vinyl and marble it slowly wears away the finish.

What helps:

  • A coarse mat outside and a soft mat inside every entrance used to come back from the park
  • A dedicated spot for bikes, scooters and beach gear, ideally the porch rather than indoors
  • Vacuum before you mop, every time. Mopping over sand just grinds it in
  • Regular vacuuming of sliding-door and window tracks, where sand gathers and stops doors running smoothly

If you have marble or timber floors, see our guides to marble floor cleaning and our floor cleaning service.

Sea air on glass and metal

Homes within a few streets of the coast see a salty haze on windows, sliding doors, balcony railings and gates. Clean glass with a damp microfibre cloth and a little glass cleaner or diluted detergent, then buff dry. On metal, always finish with a dry cloth so you don't leave moisture behind in the humidity.

Outdoor spaces

Car porches, patios, roof terraces and balconies collect leaves, soil from potted plants, bird droppings and grime from rain. They're also where water sits after a storm, which matters for dengue prevention. Plant saucers, roof gutters and drain covers should be checked and cleared regularly. Our balcony cleaning guide covers how to wash outdoor floors without water running into the house.

A practical weekly rhythm for a landed home

Large homes are easier to manage when the work is rotated rather than squeezed into one visit. Here's one way to structure a weekly cleaner visit.

  1. Every visit: kitchen, all bathrooms, floors on every level, entrances and staircases, bins.
  2. Week 1: living and dining room in depth, including skirting, sliding-door tracks and aircon unit exteriors.
  3. Week 2: bedrooms in depth, including window interiors, frames and sills, and making beds.
  4. Week 3: outdoor areas such as the porch, patio or balcony, which are extras on request, plus the main door and gate.
  5. Week 4: a catch-up on anything that slipped, such as cabinet tops, furniture exteriors or a decluttered storeroom.

Our guide to landed house cleaning in Singapore goes deeper into planning for multi-storey homes.

How long a clean takes for typical Siglap and East Coast homes

These are estimates for a regularly cleaned home. Bigger houses are often split across two visits a week.

Home typeEstimated time (one cleaner)
Condo, 2 to 3 bedrooms3 to 4.5 hours
Condo penthouse or large unit4.5 to 6 hours
Intermediate terrace, 2 to 3 storeys5 to 6.5 hours
Semi-detached house6 to 7.5 hours
Bungalow7 hours or more, often split across two visits

Monsoon months near the coast

During the Northeast Monsoon, roughly December to early March, the East Coast gets heavy showers and gusty winds. Rain blows onto balconies and windows, door tracks fill with grit, and rooms that stay shut grow mould faster. Bring outdoor cushions in, keep an eye on wardrobe corners, and run a dehumidifier or the aircon's dry mode in rooms you don't use much. Our monsoon mould prevention guide has the full checklist.

Working with Cleaning Assistant

We serve homes in Siglap, along the East Coast and across Singapore. You provide the cleaning products and equipment. For a big home that's a real advantage: you can invest in a good vacuum, the right floor cleaner for your marble or timber, and a long-handled squeegee for the glass, without paying any mark-up. Our cleaners are trained, background-checked and insured. Rates are $20/hr for the first ad-hoc trial, $23/hr for weekly or fortnightly visits and $26/hr for on-demand bookings, with no contracts or agency fees.

Frequently asked questions

How do I stop sand scratching my timber floors?

Use mats at every entrance, keep beach and bike gear in the porch, and vacuum or dust-mop often. Always remove grit before damp-mopping so it isn't dragged across the boards.

Can your cleaner clean my car porch and garden patio?

Yes. Outdoor areas like porches, patios and balconies can be added as extras on request. Let us know when booking so enough time is set aside.

How often should sea-facing windows be wiped?

Interior glass is wiped as part of every regular clean. Sea-facing panes that get a salty haze benefit from a closer wipe every two to four weeks.

Should I book one long session or two shorter ones for a landed house?

For houses that need 7 hours or more, two shorter visits a week are often easier to manage than one marathon session. The floors stay cleaner between visits and the deeper jobs can be rotated. Tell us the size of your home when booking.
