How to Find and Book a Reliable Part-Time Cleaner in Singapore
9 October 20266 min read
To book a reliable part-time cleaner in Singapore, look for three things before price: a registered business you can verify, cleaners who are background-checked and insured, and a clear answer to "what happens if my cleaner cannot come?" Get those right and the rest, from scheduling to scope, is easy to sort out.
This guide gives you the questions to ask, the red flags to walk away from, and what the booking process should look like.
Start with the business, not the cleaner
When you hire through a cleaning company, the company is responsible for vetting, insurance, replacements and complaints. That is the main advantage over finding someone informally. So first check that the business is real:
- A UEN you can look up. Every registered Singapore business has a Unique Entity Number. A legitimate company will show it on its website or tell you if asked. Ours is 202508465G.
- A working phone number and a reply. Message them. How quickly and clearly they respond is a preview of how they will handle problems later.
- Clear published pricing. You should know the hourly rate before you book, and whether anything is added on top.
- Written policies. Cancellation, rescheduling and what happens if something is damaged should be written down somewhere you can read. You can see how we set ours out on our policies page.
Seven questions to ask before booking
1. Are your cleaners background-checked?
You are giving someone access to your home. The answer should be a clear yes, not "we trust our people".
2. Are your cleaners insured, and is the business insured?
Ask what happens if something is broken or someone is hurt during a session. A company that is fully insured can answer this straight away.
3. Are your cleaners trained?
Training matters more than people think. Timber floors, marble and natural stone all need different handling, and the wrong product can etch or dull a surface.
4. What if my cleaner falls sick or cannot make it?
With an individual freelancer, a sick day often means no clean. A company is in a better position to reschedule or arrange cover. Ask how they handle it and how much notice they give.
5. Will I get the same cleaner each time?
Consistency matters, because a cleaner who knows your home works faster and remembers your preferences. Be wary of anyone who promises this absolutely. Honest companies say they do their best to send the same cleaner, as we do, because illness and leave happen.
6. Who provides the supplies?
Some services bring products and bake the cost into the rate; others, like us, ask you to provide them. Neither is wrong, but you should know upfront. Providing your own means no mark-ups and full control over what is used around kids and pets. Our cleaning supplies checklist helps you prepare.
7. Is there a contract or lock-in?
Find out whether you can pause, change frequency or stop without penalties. Part-time help should flex with your life.
Red flags to walk away from
- No business name or UEN, just a phone number and a first name.
- Prices that seem far below the market, which can mean uninsured, untrained or unverified workers.
- Pressure to pay a large deposit upfront or sign a long contract before a single session.
- Vague answers on insurance or what happens if something is damaged.
- No clear scope. If they cannot tell you what a session covers, you will not be able to hold them to it.
- Reviews that all sound the same, or no way to see any track record at all.
What a good booking process looks like
A straightforward booking should take a few minutes and cover:
- Your home. Flat type or property type, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, and any pets.
- What you want done. Standard rooms, plus any extras such as ironing or balcony cleaning. Our part-time cleaning checklist shows a typical scope.
- How long. A sensible estimate of hours. Your first session often runs longer than later ones. See how many hours of cleaning your home needs.
- Date, time and frequency. One-off, weekly or fortnightly.
- Access. Whether you will be home, or how the cleaner will get in, plus any condo security registration.
- Confirmation. A clear confirmation of the date, time and rate.
With Cleaning Assistant, you can book through our appointment page or by WhatsApp. Your first ad-hoc session is $20/hr, recurring weekly or fortnightly plans are $23/hr, and on-demand sessions, including same-day, are $26/hr. There are no agency fees or contracts.
Make the first session count
The first visit sets the tone. A few things help:
- Be home if you can, at least for the first 15 minutes, to walk the cleaner through priorities and problem spots.
- Have supplies ready and easy to find.
- Clear surfaces and put valuables away. Our guide on preparing your home before the cleaner arrives has a short routine.
- Give honest feedback afterwards. If something was missed, say so. A good company wants to know.
If you are nervous about letting someone into your home for the first time, that is normal. We cover keys, CCTV and valuables in letting a cleaner into your home. For an overview of how recurring help works, see our part-time cleaning page.
Frequently asked questions
Is it better to hire a freelance cleaner or go through a company?
A freelancer may cost less, but you take on the risk of vetting, insurance and no-shows yourself. A company handles background checks, insurance and replacements, and gives you someone accountable if something goes wrong.
How far in advance should I book a part-time cleaner?
For recurring plans, a few days ahead usually lets you secure a regular slot. For urgent needs, we offer on-demand ad-hoc cleaning, with same-day service available at $26/hr.
What should I check after the first session?
Walk through the home and check your priority areas, such as bathrooms, kitchen surfaces and floors. Tell the company about anything missed, so the next session can be adjusted.
How do I verify a cleaning company in Singapore?
Ask for its UEN and check it against the business registry, look for clear pricing and written policies, and ask directly about background checks and insurance. A legitimate company will answer all of these without hesitation.
