Part-Time Cleaner in Tanjong Pagar & Outram: Small Homes, Big City
2 October 20266 min read
In Tanjong Pagar and Outram, most homes are small and most residents are short on time. A short fortnightly or weekly session from a part-time cleaner is often all it takes to keep a compact CBD apartment, a high-floor HDB flat or a converted shophouse in good order. Cleaning Assistant serves homes here and across Singapore, with first trial cleans at $20 an hour and no contracts.
Four kinds of home, one postcode
HDB living, sometimes 50 storeys up
The Pinnacle@Duxton is the area's most famous landmark: seven 50-storey HDB towers completed in 2009, linked by sky bridges on the 26th and 50th storeys. Nearby, Everton Park and the blocks around Cantonment Road and Spottiswoode Park are older and lower, many housing long-time residents. The flats themselves range from compact to family-sized.
CBD apartments and condos
Around Tanjong Pagar MRT, Shenton Way and the newer Maxwell and Shenton Way stations on the Thomson-East Coast Line, high-rise condos and apartments house professionals who want to walk to the office. Units are often studios, one-bedders and two-bedders.
Shophouse conversions
Duxton Hill, Keong Saik Road, Craig Road and Tanjong Pagar Road are lined with conserved shophouses. Some have been converted into homes or apartments, often with timber floors, steep internal stairs and open airwells.
Outram's mature edge
Outram Park is an interchange for the East-West, North East and Thomson-East Coast lines, and the area around it blends older HDB estates with hospital campus buildings and new developments. Residents include healthcare workers, families and retirees.
Cleaning a small home well
Compact homes get dirty in concentrated ways. In a 450 sq ft studio, the kitchen, bed, desk and dining table share the same air, so grease and dust spread fast. A few habits make a big difference:
- Clear surfaces before the cleaner arrives. In a small space, clutter is most of the job. Ten minutes of tidying lets a two-hour session go much further. Our guide to preparing your home before the cleaner arrives has a simple routine.
- Ventilate the kitchen. Run the hood or open a window when you cook, especially in open-plan units.
- Wash bedding weekly. In a studio, the bed is part of the living room.
- Deal with the bathroom first. It's the room most likely to smell in a compact home with limited ventilation.

High-floor living: wind, dust and windows
Living high up at the Pinnacle or in a CBD tower brings its own quirks. Wind pushes fine dust through window gaps and onto sills, and rain can drive water into tracks. Exterior glass on high floors is not something to clean from inside by leaning out. We clean interior glass, frames, sills and tracks every visit, and exterior panes only where they're safely reachable. Our window cleaning page explains the limits.
Shophouse homes: what to expect
Converted shophouses are beautiful but not low-maintenance:
- Timber stairs and floors collect dust in every gap and need a barely damp mop, never a soaking.
- Airwells and skylights let in rain, leaves and humidity, so watch for mould on nearby walls.
- High ceilings and exposed beams gather cobwebs. A long-handled duster and a sturdy step stool are essential.
- Street-level dust from busy roads and nearby restaurants settles on ground-floor sills.
Let us know the number of floors and the layout when you book so we can suggest a realistic session length.
How long a clean takes for typical Tanjong Pagar and Outram homes
Estimates for a regular clean of a tidied home by one cleaner:
| Home type | Regular clean |
|---|---|
| Studio or 1-bedroom CBD apartment | 1.5–2 hours |
| 2-bedroom condo | 2.5–3 hours |
| 3-room or 4-room HDB, Pinnacle or Everton Park | 2.5–4 hours |
| 5-room HDB | 4–5 hours |
| Converted shophouse home | 3–5 hours, depending on floors |
A first visit or a clean after a busy few months will take longer. For tips on getting the length right, see how many hours of cleaning you need.
Choosing a plan
- Weekly or fortnightly at $23 an hour. Most professionals here choose fortnightly for a studio or one-bedder, and weekly if they cook or work from home. On recurring plans we do our best to send the same cleaner.
- On-demand at $26 an hour. Handy before visitors arrive, after a party or when a work trip leaves no time. Same-day service is available.
- First trial at $20 an hour. A low-risk way to see how it works.
There are no agency fees, levy or hidden charges. Our cleaners use the supplies and equipment you provide, which suits small homes well: buy compact, multi-purpose products you like and store them in one caddy. You also control what's used if you have pets or young children.

Frequently asked questions
Is a two-hour clean enough for a CBD studio?
Usually, yes, if the space is tidied beforehand. Two hours covers the floors, kitchen, bathroom, surfaces and bed-making in most studios and one-bedroom apartments.
Do you clean shophouse homes on Duxton Hill or Keong Saik?
Yes, we clean residential shophouse units. Let us know about stairs, airwells and ceiling height so the cleaner can plan the session and you can have a step stool ready.
Can you clean the outside of my Pinnacle@Duxton windows?
We clean interior glass and any exterior panes that are safely reachable without leaning out. High-floor exterior glass that can't be reached safely is outside our scope.
Can I book a cleaner while I'm at work?
Many residents do. Arrange access in advance, for example by meeting the cleaner on the first visit, and let us know any building registration requirements.
